Richmond Metro Zoo
March 10, 2021
Big HUGE shout out to the ultrasound department, nurses and a few others at Memorial Regional Medical Center who came together to help fund this trip for our family 💕 I cannot thank you all enough!!
Our youngest has been asking about the zoo for some time. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous. I figured we should take advantage of it while we could. Its Virginia and literally anything can change. Trust me glad we did because a week later its freezing cold again, and raining haha.
The day prior I asked her and my oldest if they wanted to go to the zoo and of course nothing but "yes" from both!! So there you have it, the trip was planned. That was easy. The weather was supposed to be near 70 or 80. I forget but nice and really warm, especially for March!
We left a little later then I had liked. We tend to always leave a little later then planned. When you have kids do you ever leave when you really plan or want to?
Had I known they were going to love the zoo so much I would have bought a membership so we could go back again and again. Like them, I am a HUGE animal lover. I could literally live at the zoo and be happy!! If you're wondering otters are my favorite followed by big cats. Oh and don't forget the zebras too.
I could live at an aquarium and zoo and be happy. My two happy places to visit. I would LOVE to do a whale tour, but its done during the winter. So not sure how I feel about that!
I'm so glad that my love for wildlife and animals is shared with my children and that they enjoy seeing and spending time at the same places. I love seeing them enjoy exploring and asking what things are. Respecting wildlife and the world around them is huge!
I have always loved nature and animals both land and sea. I have always felt more myself outdoors. I was a huge tom boy growing up and spent everyday outside. My mom couldn't keep me inside even when it rained. When it snowed I was outside ALL day too.
I have two older brothers and I would be outside more then them. I wasn't happy unless I was outdoors. If you really wanted to punish me, keep me inside!! We didn't have TV or video games, etc. Going outside was my everything. I was such an active kid. I got hurt a lot but it never stopped me!!
As I got older and I got injured and my body did more stupid things I just kept going. Push through the pain and keep going. Grab and ace bandage and keep going. Nothing stopped me from enjoying what I wanted or whatever goal I set out for myself. If I wanted it, I was going to get it. No matter how many injuries I got getting there.
I love seeing my own kids, especially our youngest take after me and her love for the outdoors and being outside and needing to be outside too. I totally get it because I was like that. There's nothing better then feeling the ground under your barefeet or the dirt in your hands. You have to ground yourself and spirit and really feel connected to earth. Its incredible. She begs to go outside, while our oldest is more of an indoor I'm ok in my room type of person. Once she's outside though, it's another story!!
The Zoo was definitely a nice change from the parks we go to and nice to see the animals and support them. We only had time to see half, so we'll be back soon to see the big cats and other bigger animals. My favorites!! Seeing the kids smile and run around excited was absolutely priceless!!
The kiddos LOVED feeding the giraffes and goats 🐐. Our youngest has always had a things for penguins since she was a toddler so she was supper excited to see live ones. So we sat and watched them for a bit and even got to watch them get fed, which was really cool.
Our oldest really likes monkeys and said her favorite was the spider monkeys which were super fun to watch. They use all 4 if their limbs to climb as well as their tails. There were a lot of baby monkeys right now too! Also super cute to watch monkeys go down slides. I think the girls were super amused by that, because they could use slides just like them. Overall this was a super cool and fun trip!!
Onto the next adventure!
