This isn't a very exciting update. There is not an official date as of yet, but hopefully within the next couple days.
This is the same surgeon I've had two previous surgeries with. I am thankful he is doing my tracheotomy. I say this because he is well aware of my very complex medical history. He also knows how I am post OP and healing and how I tolerate pain, etc. We kinda have an idea of what to expect when we get into the operating room and post operative speaking. I trust him if things do get complicated, I am in great hands. That is really what I care most about going into any surgery is how much I trust the surgeon.
If I had to meet a complete stranger right now to do it with as rare as some of my conditions are, I would be a lot more nervous and unsure of my decision going forward. There are a lot of risks with tracheotomy surgeries too. Trusting the surgeon really is an important and key part to this.
I love my surgeon. He does a fantastic job of explaining how he personally does his work and will preform the surgery. Told me the size trach that will be used which was recommended by my pulmonologist.
He is going to coordinate with the pulmonologist there and the respiratory therapist about getting my respiratory therapist on board. Which there was some mix up in this as she comes in much later and after I've been admitted to the hospital. There also seemed to be a confusion in the urgency in this surgery and that this needs to be done sooner rather then later.
Its hard when on the outside I still look fine, but on the inside its a completely different story and my lungs are functioning less then 11% now and my heart is working harder to compensate for that. I am having new symptoms but not respiratory ones.
Plan is to be there 1-2 days. That's just to check for bleeding and see how I am generally feeling. And to get the settings on the ventilator set but that could take a bit, so we'll have to see how that part goes.
Overall a really good appointment. Looking forward to having this done and over with and just able to finally breathe again. Wearing a mask near 24/7 is not enjoyable!
Hopefully surgery will be scheduled by the end of this week!! 🤞🏼
Keep fighting to breathe another day💜 #beccasfight
